BottleRock Bound: Sound Checks on the Wind, Transit on the Mind

BottleRock season has a way of sneaking into the atmosphere before the gates even open. Somewhere between the first festival posters going up, the Napa Valley traffic beginning its annual migration, and distant bass notes drifting through Wine Country air, you can feel it arriving.

Today I sat down with Emily from the Napa Valley Transit Authority for a conversation that started with practical questions — how to get around BottleRock, using public transportation, navigating Napa during one of the region's busiest weekends — and expanded into a wider conversation about transit, community, and movement.

Emily had one of the best perspectives imaginable for festival week. Her office overlooks the Napa Expo grounds, so while the rest of us are checking social feeds and lineup schedules, she's literally hearing the sound checks floating across the valley.

After our morning conversation, we pulled Emily into Kate Bruno's It's All About You for a second round where transportation talk turned into music talk, and Emily shared favorite artists and picks from this year's lineup.

One of the recurring themes from the conversation was simple: the journey can be part of the experience too. Sometimes getting there is just traffic. Sometimes it's part of the story.
